Review: You Were Made For This by Michelle Sacks

I’m not really quite sure what to make of this book if I’m honest. Although the storyline was well thought out, the ending was a bit bizarre for my liking.

Our main cast of Sam & Merry who are husband and wife are hiding secrets from each other even having moved from the US to Sweden to start a new life. Both have damaged/troubled backgrounds. Our third main character Frank is Merry’s childhood best friend.... however friend is a loosely used term as each hurts the other and have done across the years. 

The storyline is developed in such a way that you think you know where it’s going but what actually happens is far from what was expected. 

Review: The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter

I loved this book!!

It was absolutely gripping, I couldn’t wait to read it... I totally loved the way that the story unfolded. I liked the main characters Charlie and Sam and enjoyed how we learnt about their history as well as about them now.

It had a mixture of emotions throughout ranging from sadness to comedy. I don’t want to give any spoilers away but the storyline was brilliant and I have no idea how the author came up with the storyline as it genuinely was put together brilliantly.

Review: Now you see her by Heidi Perks

This book was a great read, I thought that I had the storyline worked out fairly quickly, however there was a twist and it was I didn’t see it coming! 

It was fast paced and I wanted to read more until I got to the end. It’s written in different parts of before and now in two persons accounts, it can be a bit confusing if you don’t like flicking between times/people in each chapter but I found it easy enough to follow as the book was well written.

Review: Only Child by Rhiannon Navin

Your seven years old and a shooter is loose in your school... you don’t even think about your older brother until your mum finds you and asks where he is...

This book focuses on Zach who’s life is turned upside down when his brother is killed by a school shooter. Throughout the book we go through his thoughts and feelings as he struggles to understand what is happening to him and his family. 

It’s a lovely touching story that makes you appreciate what you’ve got even if you haven’t lost a loved one.

Review: The Pact by SE Lynes

I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and easy to read... I couldn’t read it quick enough. 

I loved the triangle of female main characters who had a different dynamic between each pair within. 

The book is written from each persons perspective so you do need to pay attention to who’s chapter your reading. Although the chapters flicked between perspectives and different times, I found it easy enough to keep track of what was going on. 

There were twists and turns that I thought I’d worked out but never had fully which I really enjoyed. The one twist that still has me puzzled is the one at the end!!!

I’d definitely recommend this book as a must read.

Review: You, Me, Everything by Catherine Isaac

The Review:

The books focus is on Jess, a single mother who has raised her son, William singlehandedly with some support from her mum & dad. William has had little contact with his father over the years but Jess is pushed into spending the summer with Adam, Williams’ father at his holiday chateau complex in France by her mother. 

The book has humour as well as a deeply moving and important storyline, which portrays things very well. I must praise the author on such a good book, that also raises awareness. 

I will admit that I wasn’t gripped by the book where I felt that I couldn’t stop reading as I needed to find out what happened, but it was well written in such a way that I found myself sitting down and reading several chapters very quickly whilst still taking in the story, in what felt like no time at all. 

It has a good storyline and it was nice to read a well written ‘chick flick’ novel as I call them, with a great balance of sadness, happiness & humour.

After the Fire by Henning Mankell

I enjoyed this book, the story is based around Fredrik who is a retired doctor living alone on an island. He wakes up to find his house on fire and he's the prime suspect. 

It's a great little story that covers loneliness, and relationships between family and friends, making you think about how much you really know people. I really warmed to Fredrik and the way the book has been written was really well done. 

It's not particularly fast paced but still a good read with other characters brilliantly described throughout.

Review:

I found this book to be a real page turner, it's fast paced and I couldn't wait to read more. It was written so well that as each chapter ended I just wanted to continue reading, and I found myself deeply immersed in it within the first few pages.

I instantly liked the main character Lisa and really felt for her. As the story unfolds I found myself willing that things worked out for her, although it is a serious book there are some humorous parts and I did laugh out loud at Lisa in the supermarket. I loved how the author created the characters in a way that you got to know them but not in so much detail that it detracted from the storyline.

The story is well written and I didn't see the ending coming which is always good as I find that I often have it worked out partway through the first few chapters! Definitely worth reading as it's a unique story which you can't even begin to imagine. I can't wait to read the next book by Paula Daly
